about

Raised in Nigeria and now rooted in Seattle, Nifemi Madarikan is a multidisciplinary visual artist working in photography and film. His practice explores the soft flash of vulnerability, the patience of self-compassion, and the red-threaded intimacy that binds our lives together. Working where disciplines blur, he centers the human figure to trace the experiences, relationships, and transitions that shape us.

Nifemi constructs portraits that hold stillness like a pulse, quiet yet resolute, building scenes shaped by light, feeling, and narrative. Collaboration is essential to the work: friends and collaborators meet the lens as co-authors. Black subjects anchor much of his practice, where centering faces, skin, and stories becomes both celebration and inquiry. Drawn to the richness of shadow and how darkness can withhold and reveal in the same breath, he positions tenderness as both compass and shelter.

Exhibited across Seattle and supported by institutions including the Museum of Pop Culture, 4Culture, and NFFTY, Nifemi's work offers a space for pause, for bearing witness to both personal and shared experiences of pain, presence, and resilience. Through image-making, he invites viewers into a deeper relationship with themselves and with one another.
